Detroit Personal Injury Attorney
KALAMAZOO, MI -- Medical malpractice law firm McKeen & Associates PC plans to open a branch office in Kalamazoo.
The Detroit-based law firm, which specializes in representing individuals in personal injury, Social Security and medical malpractice matters, announced Monday that it soon expects to settle on a location in Kalamazoo and have a branch office up and going here by Feb. 1.
It has hired Raymond Steadmon as an associate attorney to lead its expansion in West Michigan.
The branch office will be a base for Steadmon and a small support staff.
Saying West Michigan can provide "a lot of opportunities for our firm's growth," Brian McKeen, managing partner of McKeen & Associates, said it has handled a substantial number of cases in the area.
"We have cases in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Muskegon, St. Joseph and everywhere across the state," said McKeen, whose current clients include about a dozen families who were allegedly victimized by Oakland County oncologist Dr. Farid Fata.
McKeen is representing the families in civil lawsuits against various hospitals and clinics where Fata worked. Fata was convicted on multiple counts of health care fraud, money laundering and other charges, in connection with overtreating, undertreating and fraudulently billing hundreds of cancer patients in his care. In July, Fata was sentenced to 45 years in federal prison.
Regarding Steadmon, McKeen said, "We are thrilled to have someone with Raymond's legal expertise and deep roots in western Michigan to begin our expansion."
Steadmon lives in Portage and was raised in the Kalamazoo area. He has been practicing law for a relatively short six years, according to information provided by the firm. But he has worked as a civil litigation attorney in Chicago and has won awards and recognition for his work.
Steadmon has bachelor's degrees in criminal justice and sociology, both from Ferris State University, and he has a law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law. In Chicago, he specialized in cases involving wrongful death, products liability, medical and legal malpractice, and other personal injury matters.
He has been listed as an "Illinois Super Lawyer Rising Star" for the past three years and was named one of the "Top 10 Personal Injury Attorneys Under 40 in Illinois" by the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys.
In 2015, he was selected by Leading Lawyers Network as an "Emerging Lawyer" for that year.
McKeen & Associates got its start in 1983 and includes 15 attorneys who work throughout Michigan. It is a leader in representing individuals injured by the negligence of others particularly in or by hospitals and physicians.
