Morris County Personal Injury Lawyer

MORRISTOWN A longtime Morris County defense attorney who allegedly injured another driver in a June traffic accident in Parsippany, has been indicted on a charge of assault by auto and also faces a lawsuit in the case.
Walter Laufenberg, 53, who lives in the Lake Hiawatha section of Parsippany, allegedly injured Ahmed Shoeira, 26, of Randolph, in the June 12 accident on Route 202, or Littleton Road, just north of Brooklawn Drive, Parsippany police said. Laufenberg was also charged with driving while intoxicated.
Because of Laufenbergs ties to Morris County, the criminal case was transferred to Passaic County, where a grand jury indicted him Dec. 18. He is scheduled to be arraigned there on Jan. 29, according to court records.
Shoeiras lawsuit, accusing Laufenberg of gross negligence, was filed in Superior Court in Morristown and made public today. Shoeira was badly injured, including permanent scarring, said his attorney, Paul Grosso.
Laufenberg, an attorney at the Morristown office of the firm Gold, Albanese and Barletti, was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1986 and served as Parsippanys municipal prosecutor form 1994 to 2003, according to the law firms website.
Shoeira was driving south, and Laufenberg was driving north, when he crossed the double-yellow line, entered the southbound lane and hit Shoeiras vehicle, according to Parsippany police. Shoeira was treated at a local hospital, police said.
Shoeira was also initially charged with driving while intoxicated, but that charge was dismissed in Parsippany Municipal Court, according to Grosso.
Laufenberg and his attorney, Joel Harris, were both unavailable for comment today.
